Oh, my friend Rudy Hernandez, with whom I worked out last semester, has been called up by the U.S. Army. He is going to Qatar as support personnel in the upcoming conflict. This, after he married our fellow student, Neva Howes, on December 28, 2002 in Rhode Island.
Amazingly, Rudy is the only student out of 72 that we lost over the break. No one dropped out, which is quite unusual in law school.
In Rudy's place, my friend Jackson has volunteered to go to the gym with me.
This past week marked the 30th anniversary of the famous Supreme Court decision,
Roe v. Wade which provided a federal right to abortion to women in the U.S. It is an amazing opinion, which I encourage you to read. It is probably one of the sloppiest pieces of legal work, next to the Dred Scott decision, that a U.S. Supreme Court justice has ever written. If there is a federal right to abortion, this particular piece of work certainly didn't locate it. It was simply an attempt to right what was considered a social problem. But, as legal scholarship: trash.
