Continuing life in Ypsilanti / Ann Arbor

Saturday, January 25, 2003

Well, it has been a month since my last post.

I went home to New York for New Years Eve and my Mom's birthday, January 2. I spent the Eve at the home of my former boss, Frank Russo. Frank brought in gaming tables and we played for prizes. Craps, roulette, and blackjack.

After the week in NY, I went to Tampa with my friends Andrew and Larry . We spent a week in condos playing golf, seeing downtown St. Pete, visiting museums, playing bridge, getting massages, eating out and just having a relaxing time. Larry and I got into some heated political conversations but no harm done.

Returning to Ypsilanti, I started classes again on January 13. Seven classes, six of which are graded. No other accredited law school in the U.S. places such a heavy burden on its second semester 1L's.

I have had a hard time getting ramped up for the second semester. Still, I am forcing myself to do the work. This semester, we have to write an appellate brief and argue it before a moot court. Should be fun.

My test scores were a bit disappointing but very respectable. I ranked out of 36 students as follows:

Civil Procedure - 7 (about an A-)
Torts - 9 (about an A-)
Contracts - 10 (about a B+)
Property - 14 (about a B)
Research, Writing & Advocacy - 12 of 24 (about a B)

For the most part, these grades are only worth about 35% of my full annual grade. Plus, they have a added a 3 credit class in Criminal Law.

I went on the Atkins Diet . It certainly is an interesting change to only eat proteins. I am absolutely craving Pizza and Pasta!
